Kids Restoring the Mauri
EDUCATION COORDINATOR

Do you have a passion for working with youth? A desire to empower and grow environmental leaders of the future? Are you a strong facilitator who can work with schools, treaty partners, councils, government entities and community groups to support the delivery of Student Led Conservation Education, across the curriculum from kindergarten to secondary school?

As Education Coordinator, you will be one of two facilitators of the Kids Restoring the Mauri education programme. You will work alongside the Strategic Leadership Team to ensure the following outcomes are delivered:

  • Develop a pilot programme with the Awatapu Awa (Lagoon) at the heart. Aligning with Whakatāne Intermediate, other schools, early learning facilities and the vision of the Otamakaokao Kaitiaki Trust, ‘To Restore the Mauri of the awa’, while ensuring the local community is invited to contribute to the development of the programme. Sharing common elements and unique understanding about the area’s unique past, present and future.

  • Work with the Student Leadership Team to support and inspire

  • Integrate Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori throughout the initiative by working alongside local whanau, hapū and iwi representatives

  • Build and develop relationship with key stakeholders

  • Build, maintain and manage partnerships and relationships that grow conservation, heritage, scientific, cultural interest, knowledge and skills for Whakatāne children and young people

  • Work with the Strategic Leadership Group to plan the programme and monitor progress

  • Facilitate access to specialist advice, best practice guidance, capability support and quality assurance, especially for teachers and their students participating in Kids Restoring the Mauri
